Course: Pre-Test Lessons

Pre-Test Lessons

Pre-Test Lessons

Pre-Test Lessons are for after a student has completed their CBT course and to get them up to test standard. We also recommend you have completed your theory test prior to starting lessons.

Our professional, friendly and patient instructors will ensure you are equipped with all the skills and knowledge needed for both your theory and practical tests.

These lessons will build your confidence, experience, understanding of the key manoeuvres and reading the road ahead. They are also designed to ensure you have the competence to successfully pass your test, but more importantly to equip you to ride safely throughout your motorcycling journey.

Pre-test lessons are manually booked into the system by the RideSafe.im team so that existing students having lessons can have the same slots on a regular basis. Once a student passes their motorbike test, this slot is freed up and the next person on the waiting list is offered lessons. Please use the enquiry form to be added to the waiting list/be booked in.

What to bring

  • You need to wear:

    • A helmet which complies with BS 6658:1985 or ECE22.05. Helmets are available for hire if required.
    • A jacket which should ideally be warm, waterproof and provide good abrasion protection.
    • Good quality leather (or strong material) gloves. These should cover and extend above the wrist.
    • A pair of sturdy boots which cover the ankles, and which provide good grip.
    • Tough jeans or trousers – no shorts, lightweight materials or skinny fit trousers which may ride up and expose the lower leg. However if taking lessons it would be expected that you wear proper motorcycle kit as this offers a greater deal of protection at higher speeds.
  • Also bring:

    • For your first lesson, if with another instructor than you passed your CBT with, then please bring your CBT certificate.
    • Glasses, if you need them for driving.
  • If using your own motorbike, please ensure:

    • You have valid insurance, and bring proof of this with you.
    • It is correctly displaying a valid tax disc.
    • It is correctly displaying front and rear, full sized 'L' plates.

The course itinerary

You will meet your instructor and discuss the lesson objectives for that lesson, then head out onto the road to practice the needed skills.

If you are nearly at test standard, it may be that instructors swap students to do a mock test run which can be helpful for students and to have a fresh pair of eyes reviewing the student.

Amount of lessons

Not every student who passes their CBT course, will want formal lessons.

We believe that having lessons is highly beneficial as it ensures students learn the correct and proper way of riding, key safety principles, conduct the specified managers correctly and have enhanced hazard aware skills, that may not be learned properly otherwise.

There is no defined amount of lessons that a students ‘needs’ to pass their test. There could be a 16 year old motocross rider that is highly proficient in physically riding and only requires a 2 lessons, more on the understanding and application of the Highway Code, or a student could need 20 lessons until they feel they are confident enough to not only undertake their motorcycle test, but then riding alone on the road.

Your instructor can guide you as you go along with an understanding of your experience of motorcycle riding, experience on the roads and skill level. It is the aim of RideSafe.im that a student stays with the same instructor throughout their lessons to provide continuity, ongoing assessment and regular slots.
